Moving the week before Christmas is NOT highly recommended. Come to think of it, neither is getting married the week before Christmas. Ask me how I know.
We've unpacked all the necessary things, but we still have boxes in half of the rooms in the new house. I couldn't justify missing any more school to finish unpacking or to decorate. That's why only one room in the new house is decorated and we've lived here 4 1/2 months.
As you can see in this picture below taken during Madi's 7 yr old photo shoot, we have some big open windows in the livingroom and entryway. Rightly dubbed "the fishbowl" by my MIL, we needed to do something about our privacy especially in the evening. Rick graciously let me use our tax refund this year to order blinds and curtains for the living room and kitchen area.
A couple weeks ago, I started calling multiple companies that sell window treatments. The first couple were WAY too expensive or didn't show!! Thankfully the Lord led us to a couple local businesses that were in our budget. We ordered vertical blinds for the diningroom area and part of the breakfast nook (pictured below on the left). We ordered roman shades for the other part of the breakfast nook (pictured below on the right), an awning for the little window in the dining room (to go with the country bistro theme), a valance for the living room and a window seat cushion for the master bedroom! The blinds could be in as early as this week. I told the girl making the window treatments I needed them by the beginning of June. Sure hope I can wait that long!!
We decided to paint a little also. The color in the kitchen area was brown but a dingy, gray brown. We darkened it a couple shades and warmed it up a bit. Here's the before . . .
And here's the "in between"! Still waiting on window treatments and a little table and chairs . . .
We are praying this new house feels like a home once we add our personal touches. We do miss the solitude of our other home, but we know we're where God wants us right now.
